FAQ

What is the difference between therapy and integrative 1:1s?
Therapy services are for humans who reside in the state of Oregon. We can also talk about diagnoses, utilize the DSM, and clarify clinical symptoms you’re struggling with in therapy. Therapy services may be reimbursable by insurance (depending on your insurance benefits).
Integrative 1:1s are for humans anywhere. We are not diagnosing or using the DSM in integrative 1:1s, and services are not able to be reimbursed by insurance.
A lot of the work we can do in either therapy or integrative 1:1s can look/feel/sound very similar. In both, we can look at patterns you may be struggling with, build compassionate awareness & understanding, explore and find tools for helping you be with yourself and life more harmoniously, etc.
I would say therapy has the option of being more clinically focused, while integrative 1:1s tend to be more meditation/spirituality focused. Integrative 1:1s do not diagnose or treat medical or mental health conditions.

Do you take insurance?
For integrative 1:1s: sessions are not able to be reimbursed through insurance.
For Oregon-based therapy: I do not take insurance and only take private pay at this time. However, a monthly insurance-ready “superbill” (receipt) can be provided upon request for reimbursement purposes. You will be responsible to submit the superbill directly to your insurance provider if your plan offers "out of network" reimbursement.
How do you know if you have out of network coverage for therapy services?
Here are some example questions that may be helpful to ask your insurance provider:
-Do I have “out of network” mental health insurance benefits for associate therapists?
-What is the “allowed amount” per session and the reimbursement rate?
-What is my yearly deductible and have I met it?
-How will I be reimbursed?
-How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
-
Do you offer reduced fee or sliding scale options?
I recognize that each of us has access to different levels of resourcing and support at any given moment, and I strive to make my services accessible for all. So yes, I often do have a number of sliding scale slots available and may be able to offer flexibility in my fees, based on your access to resources + support, what kind of work we’ll be doing, and how often we plan to meet. We’ll discuss payment options and what makes sense for both of us during our consultation and then ongoing throughout our time together.
-
How do I schedule an appointment?
The best way to connect with me is to fill out a contact form on the “CONNECT” page or reach out via email to schedule a free 30 minute consultation. This gives us a time to connect and get to know each other, go over logistics, and decide if we want to move forward with scheduling our first session.
-
How long does this last?
First appointments will last about 90 minutes so that we can go through paperwork and get to know one another. Regular appointments are 1 hour long.
Frequency and total timeline of our work together depends on your goals and what’s going on in your life. We will have ongoing conversations about this. Typically clients start out meeting once per week. As time goes on, some clients reduce the frequency of meeting if that feels appropriate. There is no set time for how long counseling takes overall. For some people, counseling lasts months, for some its years, and for some, they return to counseling off and on over years as their life requires.

Do I have to include spirituality?
Nope!
Spirituality can mean different things to each person. Although spirituality is an essential part of how I operate and understand the world, in our intake session together, I’ll be asking what spirituality means to you and if/how you would like spirituality to be a part of our work together. I offer spiritually-inspired ideas for you to experiment with and see if they connect with your experiences and offer some relief.
